Forehead and Eyelids Surgery Our physical appearance is not always as good and as young as we might feel. Inheritance, skin damage, excessive sun exposure y aging, will eventually make our forehead, eyebrows and temporary region to loose and wrinkle. Redundant skin over the eyelids and fat deposits that form enlargements or protrusions (bags and black shadows under the eyes), are the most important signs of aging.
The result of this phenomenon is a sad, old and tired that sometimes gives an aspect of anger. Fortunately, plastic surgery can fix these problems, giving a new, fresh and young look to the patient.
Some Solutions The surgery that corrects the signs of aging in the eyelids is known as Blepharoplasty or Eyelids Surgery. This surgery can be perform on the upper and lower eyelids, by removing the excess or redundant skin, as well as the fatty bags under the eyes. The incisions are made over the natural folds, making the scars almost impossible to see. Blepharoplasty minimizes the signs of aging in the eyes, but do not have any effect over the forehead or the cheeks.
Frequently the association with fallen eyebrows and a wrinkled forehead exaggerate the problem of redundant skin over the upper eyelids. In these cases the doctor recommends, besides the Blepharoplasty, a surgery called forehead lift. This surgery elevates the eyebrows, the forehead and the temporary regions; it minimizes the wrinkles in the forehead as well. In the forehead lift the incisions are made hidden in the hairline and are practically imperceptible or completely hidden by the hair.
These surgeries, blepharoplasty and forehead lift, can be done separately or at the same time with a rhytidectomy or facelift, or any other facial surgeries.
Anesthesia
The technique we use at our clinic for an eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and/or forehead lift is local anesthetic combined with a sedative. This way, the patient will be sedated allowing him / her a faster recovery. Sometimes, especially if you combine them with other procedures, it’s necessary the use of general anesthesia or if the patient desires it that way.
Post-operative Care
After the surgery is normal to see swelling and bruises. The biggest part of the swelling will disappear during the first weeks and in general, the bruises will disappear in one or two weeks.
The patient can experience some discomfort or minor pain, but it’s easy handled with medication. Intensive pain is extremely rare. The stitches will be removed during the first week, and the patient is allowed to wear make up a few days after.
With the elimination of the redundant skin and fat around the eyelids and or the elevation of the eyebrows, the patient will have a younger appearance, with a fresh and more relaxed look. The amount of improvement will depend on the characteristics of each person as well as the magnitude of the surgery.
Risks
The risks in this surgery are minimal. But there are, and are inherent to any surgical procedure. This should be discussed with the plastic surgeon. It’s encouraging to know that every year thousands of blepharoplasties and forehead lifts are performed with a huge success. Our clinic has a fully qualified staff as well as the latest equipment and technology to perform these surgeries.
The eyelids surgery (blepharoplasty), eyebrows and forehead can help you improve your image as well as your self-confidence.
“It is irrational to wait until certain age to have the surgery done. When the problem exists it must be corrected”.
